Filidei/Pommerat: L’Inondation – Grand Theatre du Luxembourg

Grand Théâtre du Luxembourg

Orchestre de Chambre du Luxembourg

Writer-director Joël Pommerat contributes his first ever libretto to this family tragedy in two acts, based on a 1929 short story by Evgueni Zamiatine. The fate of a childless couple who take in an orphan is played out on a multi-storey set: one flat above another, where similar lives are led. Filidei and Pommerat (also responsible for staging) collaborated closely to create this contemporary vision of outer ordinariness that belies the inner turmoil. Under Leonhard Garms, the Orchestre de Chambre du Luxembourg deliver a haunting score by Francesco Filidei.
